Chalcots Community Action is a community-led systems change project based on the Chalcots Estate in Swiss Cottage. We are working with the residents on the estate to find out their vision for the Chalcots Estate, what residents feel they can contribute to support their neighbours, and what ideas they have to make it a healthier, happier and more connected place. A document called the Chalcots Manifesto will be produced that is community owned, capturing the goals of the community by the end of 2019. The format of the manifesto is yet to be determined but may include film, art and words.

This work builds on the initial consultation of 84 Chalcots residents where issues were raised around isolation particularly of older people, poor mental health, the separation of communities and anti-social behaviour. People indicated that they had an appetite for social action

“We should have neighbourhood events to bring us together and look after each other”.

We have employed eight diverse residents including 3 young people as Community Organisers to research what the Chalcots residents think, by interviewing them. We will also hold workshops in the new year to explore more closely the themes that emerge.

We learn what works through action, by testing out resident’s ideas for activities and events. We also partnered with Street2Scale to hand out pre-loaded credit cards with £100 to be given to residents. Find our what ideas your neighbours came up with below!
